Mokuhanga 木版画, or Japanese woodblock printing is a technique best known for its use in the ukiyo-e artistic genre of single sheets, but it was also used for printing books in the same period. It was widely adopted in Japan during the Edo Period 1603–1868). It involves printing from hand carved wooden blocks with water-based ink.
This book was created using five carved blocks layered and inked in unique ways. It reflects my interests in the human body at the anatomical and cellular level.
